First-ever SMDC Run for Fitness Attracts Runners From All Walks of Life
Serious and leisure runners gathered at Palm Coast Drive in the Mall of Asia Complex before dawn on February 28, Sunday to join the first-ever SMDC Run for Fitness.
Runners from 21k, 10k and 5k put the fun in the fun run not only by beating personal records but also by dressing up for the event. Aside from wearing their singlets and athletic attires, some showed creativity by donning costumes while running. A couple chose to wear a head-to-toe all pink attire, an advertising guy donned a superhero costume, and a woman in the 10k category wore a colorful balloon skirt.
Successful at its goal to promote solidarity, the SMDC Run for Fitness brought families, couples, friends and work colleagues together to get active and have fun with each other. Kids as young as twelve years old and grandparents as old as 78, entrepreneurs, students, banking executives, as well as celebrity hottie Rodjun Cruz also joined the run.
It’s a joy to see the runners get creative with their outfits, which definitely added the fun for everyone.
SMDC Run for Fitness being a fun run did not hinder some serious runners from beating their personal record. Argel Joseph Mendoza, the first placer in the 21k category, finished the run in 1 hour 21 minutes and 11 seconds.
After the fun run, those who still had energy for more exercise activities went to the event area to join the body jam and body combat session led by Fitness First instructors. The SMDC Run for Fitness culminated with the grand raffle draw which saw lucky runners win prizes including a pair of Mizuno shoes, plane tickets to Hong Kong, Cebu and Davao, a three days and two nights stay in Boracay, and a trip to Palawan for eight.
