What You Can Learn From Organizing Queen Marie Kondo
Published By: SMDC.com | February 20, 2019
By now, you’ve probably heard of organization consultant, author and TV personality, Marie Kondo. She’s taking the world by storm with her tidying tips, and is starting a change in people’s behavior towards the way they handle their things.
More than the de-cluttering, Marie Kondo gives us deeper insights as to why we have clutter in the first place. Here are a few powerful lessons you can apply as you tidy up your condo from Marie and her “KonMari method”:
Don’t Let Clutter Get You Down
An excess in stuff doesn’t only clutter your condo but it clutters your mind. Tidying brings you calmness and clarity which allows you to function as you should so you can focus on the more important things.
As Marie put it, “We should be choosing what we want to keep, not what we want to get rid of.” Her philosophy of keeping things that spark joy is something we don’t realize plays a huge role in our happiness or unhappiness at home. If you think about it, when you’re surrounded by things that spark joy for you, it’s reflected in your aura as well.
Store Stuff Upright
Changing the way you store things can help change the way you see them – literally. From now on, store your things upright, including clothes; in this way, you won’t have to end up searching and digging endlessly to find your stuff.
Tidying up by rooms seems like the best way to go about organizing the home, but Marie argues otherwise. Before getting to organize, one must categorize. Tidying up by category — specifically by clothes, books, miscellaneous, and sentimental items – is the more efficient way to declutter.
It’s A Process
No one can organize a home overnight – not with all your roles and responsibilities in life. So don’t be too hard on yourself; as long as you’re committed to tidying up, you can take it day by day, one category at a time.
