SM Southmall came alive as SM Cares and the Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines, Inc. (DSAPI) hosted the second edition of Happy Talk: Usapang Down Syndrome 2025. The event gathered over 600 participants, including government officials, educators, therapists, and community stakeholders, to raise awareness and create safer, more inclusive spaces for individuals with Down syndrome.

“Through Happy Talk, we are reminded that inclusion is not just about understanding—it’s about action. Every shared story and effort brings us closer to a world where individuals with Down syndrome are embraced and celebrated,” said Luis M. Harder, President of DSAPI.
A Platform for Collaboration and Action
Happy Talk 2025 featured expert speakers, interactive discussions, and real-world case studies that equipped attendees with strategies for promoting awareness and acceptance across the Philippines. Representatives from the Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO), National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA), and other community organizations exchanged insights on best practices for disability inclusion.
SM Cares reaffirmed its commitment to inclusivity by ensuring that its malls serve as safe, welcoming community hubs. “Through initiatives like Happy Talk, we create ripple effects of understanding and support for individuals with down syndrome. Educated communities become empowered to act, fostering safer and more inclusive spaces,” said Engr. Bien C. Mateo, SM Cares Program Director for Disability Affairs.
Championing Inclusion and Celebrating Diversity
Happy Talk is part of SM Cares’ and DSAPI’s long-term collaboration to empower individuals with Down syndrome and their families. The partnership continues with Happy Walk on March 30, an annual event advocating for inclusion and awareness.
Participants engaged in mini-workshops, discussions, and storytelling sessions, highlighting practical steps toward building more inclusive communities. Families shared their personal journeys, offering valuable perspectives that inspired others to join the movement for greater acceptance.
Impact Beyond the Day
Happy Talk 2025 left attendees with a renewed sense of purpose and responsibility. “This forum was not just about discussions; it was about coming together to create solutions and pave the way for a more inclusive future,” shared one PDAO representative.
SM Cares continues to lead the way in inclusive practices, ensuring that its initiatives foster a society where individuals of all abilities are valued and supported.
